

The sequel, the Aspect Emperor series is even darker (it contains some of the darkest moments in fantasy imo), even more epic, and also quite good (although not as good). It does have a sequel so might not exactly meet your criteria, but there is basically no overlap Would still be "epic fantasy" without much of the major tropes that make most epic fantasy feel same-ey.
